Here are 3 ways that electromagnetic fields can impact your eye health (because we all know that EMFs aren’t harmful, right?) ….
1. Oxidative Stress in Retinal Tissue: EMFs have been shown to increase oxidative stress markers in biological tissue. Your retinas are especially vulnerable, because they have high metabolic activity and are rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids (which are more susceptible to oxidative damage). Elevated oxidative stress may contribute to cellular strain in retinal cells over time.
2. Ocular Surface Dryness and Digital Eye Strain: EMF exposure is often associated with prolonged device use. Extended screen time reduces blink rate, which can lead to dry eye symptoms, irritation, blurred vision, and strain. While the primary mechanism is behavioral, the cumulative exposure environment
includes EMF radiation alongside light and close-focus stress.
3. Potential Cellular Stress Signaling: Research suggests EMFs impact calcium ion channels and cellular signaling pathways. (I’ve shared this before.) Altered cellular signaling can affect ocular tissues, including lens or retinal
cells.
